Drain Tiles

Perforated drain pipe--called tile--is placed around the exterior and interior of your foundation. The idea here is to channel water--as much as possible-- away from your foundation. Water permeation can have catastrophic effects on the stuctural integrity of your home; it is critical to keep water away from your foundation.

The drain tiles are sloped properly, and usually dump water into either your septic system, the local sewer system, or a dry well.

The drain tiles are PVC pipe; the perforation allows groundwater to seep in, and that groundwater then runs downhill, in the tile, to its destination. To encourage water to percolate into the the drain tile, the tile is surrounded by crushed gravel. Water percolates easily through the gravel to the pipe.
